Learning with your child does not always have to be quiet time within the home with books or educational aids. In fact we have found that often the learning that takes place in everyday activities has the most impact. One such activity is the supermarket and one of our favourite places is the fresh produce department.

Most children will enjoy a visit to the local supermarket if you turn the whole trip into a game. And when you enter the Fruit and Vegetable section with a view to learning you are not only encouraging your child to adopt a healthy attitude to fresh, wholesome food but, you will find that they enjoy experiencing the different smells, textures and shapes. And if you are so inclined, the taste when they get home!

The important thing is to remember that there are learning opportunities everywhere and below is a very simple example of some of the things that you might try next time your find yourself in the supermarket.
