A magical and alternative tale for your children this Christmas?
This year we wanted to find some special books to curl up with in front of the fireplace and share at Christmas. For those of you who don’t know the Kideeko family; books are a passion of ours, so we have a wide selection of tales about Santa Claus, snow and of course the Nativity, but this year we wanted to find something a little bit different. Whenever we look for something special to join our overflowing bookshelf we always look to Barefoot Books, as they always seem to offer a new twist on an old and ancient tale, (the old stories are always a favourite, after all they have stood the test of time). A story that’s almost been forgotten is lovingly revived by Barefoot, time and time again. They travel the world finding magical stories which warm the heart, make us consider others feelings and leave us wanting more! We wanted to share two of the little treasures we have found for Christmas 2011.
Babushka
(for ages 3-7yrs old)
Retold by Sandra Ann Horn | Illustrated by Sophie Fatus
If you already know the story it will be a favourite. This tale is one that touches a small place in the heart and stays with you for many years. The story is about Babushka, a woman who is too busy worrying about the small things in life and misses the opportunity to accompany the Three Kings to give a gift to Baby Jesus. The story unfolds to show us that the more you give away in love, the more you will receive. This particular version of Babushka is beautifully illustrated by the wonderful Sophie Fatus (we think these are some of her best illustrations ever!)
