Don't Forget the Date

It’s February so we are all awash with flowers and chocolates and love…….well, perhaps  not quite, but just how is the “date night” looking?

Is it put off because something else, children needing taxiing to half a dozen different venues etc, always comes up or you are too tired to do anything other than flop on the sofa together - again?

As a couple, spending time with the one another is always on the list of important things , but daily life does have a habit of getting in the way of good intentions. Many couples set up weekly date nights only to have them fall by the wayside quicker than New Year’s resolutions. So, what is a solution?

How about trying a monthly date? A real date, that you plan, budget for, arrange and then surprise your partner with the invitation that they cannot resist?  Having just one date each for the month, gives a little more time for planning and a lot less reasons for putting it off – it is only one date each after all.  At the beginning of each month you can then swap invites, mark both dates on the calendar and have something special to look forward to.

Here are a few ideas to get you thinking….

  • Have a sunset picnic and take a blanket to enjoy the stars together
  • Go to a sporting event together
  • Take a bus or train to another town and be tourists for the day
  • Take a painting class together and bring home your works of art - the children will be fab critics!
  • Enjoy a dinner safari – try somewhere new for appetizers, somewhere different for the main course and onto somewhere else for drinks or dessert.
  • See a show or movie and then stroll home together
  • Try go-karting, surfing or ice skating together
  • Take a small boat trip, maybe try fishing together

The dates can be as inexpensive as you need them to be, romance doesn’t have to mean being whisked away to Paris for the weekend. Be imaginative, creative, and thoughtful and above all have fun.

This year is a leap year and so an extra day has appeared on our calendar. Instead of letting that day just bustle by, why not make it into something special…..oh, and don’t forget Valentine’s Day!
