In August 2005 Sally Hurst was sitting on her local beach in Devon with her 5 children surrounded by carrier bags. She thought she needs a practical, strong, fun beach bag so she went home and designed one!
There are so many bag companies she wanted to be different, so when her husband came up with the name The Old Bag Company she thought it was perfect and she became the number one Old Bag! She decided to involve her 5 children so the ranges are named after them. Each bag has a label inside with a message from the children giving the product personality.
Since the first range of beach bags, Sally has since designed a handbag range, tote bags, weekend sets, backpacks, baby changing bags, cool bags, laptop bags and purses. The canvas bags are light weight, machine washable and waterproof inside. The all have lots of pockets inside and out, designed by a woman for a woman making them very practical, organised bags.
Sally donates a percentage of the Ellie Junior bags to a local charity, Families for Children, an Adoption Agency and Charity Trust who place children from all over the country with families in Devon and Cornwall. She chose this charity as The Old Bag Company is a family business and Sally herself is adopted. Inside each Ellie Junior bag is a label thanking you for buying this bag and helping the charity.
Loved by the media – The Old Bag Company has been featured in Vogue, Conde Nast Traveller, The Daily Telegraph, The Daily Mail, The Sunday Telegraph, Woman & Home, Marie Claire, Red Magazine, Best Magazine, Pregnancy Baby and You, The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, Brides Magazine, Living North and Devon Life. It has also been on ITV Westcountry and BBC Spotlight and had their bags in The Big Brother House.

In 2012 Sally’s local paper wrote in their publication “The wittily named Old Bag Company continues to garner a rich tally of business awards. Founder of the company Sally Hurst has every right to be delighted by her continuing success story. She has shown herself to be the kind of entrepreneur that this country desperately needs. If we are ever to dig ourselves out of the massive economic hole which we are in, it will be companies such as this one which lead the way”
